Kitin’s business concept is based on the founder Mr. Nils Halvard Molnes’ dedicated efforts during more than 20 years of developing knowledge, solutions and new concepts for responsible harvesting and processing of Krill.
His long-lasting pursuit was awarded with a license for Krill harvesting in the Antarctic being granted by the Norwegian Ministry for Fisheries in 2019.
Although Kitin’s concept for processing and conservation is brand new and unprecedented in Krill fisheries, the methods and technologies applied are all well-known from other food and beverages industries. This includes a.o. cold pressing, separation, filtration and freezing at sea, followed by hydrolysis and spray drying at our land facility, resulting in Food Grade quality of Marine Protein Concentrate (MPC).
All processes applied are cold/low-temperature resulting in high quality products where the valuable properties in proteins and lipids are maintained and unaffected by added chemicals or high temperature conservation methods.
Kitin is investing in harvesting vessel and land-based processing plant to be in operation in 2024 for production of premium grade ingredients to the Aquafeed and Nutraceutical Industries.
